Hi Everybody!

It's been a little busy here. First I've had several Blogpals let me know my e-mail is not working, soooooo, after a lot of back and forth and getting no where I have changed my e-mail address. The new e-mail is,
brownginghamcreations@fuse.net  Please be sure to add it to your address book.
The Southern Belle Summer Garden Pillow is complete. The original embroidered creation became a wall hanging for a new Baby Girl, so this is the pillow edition. it is availalbe at my Shoppe.

Southernbelle measures 18 x 18. Remember this is the first in the Four Season Collection and can be recreated as a custom creation in your color selection.  To see how this Summer Southernbelle bloomed go
Here  and Here

I have also been stitching away and adding some things to my websites.

I found a wonderful vintage find a while back....this autumn vintage apron was a stamped for embroidery piece using sheer yellow fabric with fall atumn color leaves to embroider.
I even located a vintage doily to use for the pocket of the apron in coordinating colors.
Here is a closeup of embroidered leaves. I left some plain to show the original stamping and make the leaves that are embroidered, pop.
Of course the apron comes with a vintage  cookbook tucked into the pocket.

Then I found another stamped for embroidery peice..........................................

A lovely card table or table topper. It's from the 1950's, in a wonderful pale orange cloth with a darker orange shade accent square. It is surrounded by beautiful hand-tatted edging in cream and the palest yellow. The stitcher had started the peice and I have finished it.

And this is my newest Brown Bag..........................................................................

I took a canvas bag and embellished with a vintage 1940 hand-tatted lacy square to create a pocket
I then added a 1960's plaid square and with a colonial motif diamond taken from a vintage1960 curtain panel that I hand-embroidered.. Button stacks to create flowers were added and a charm that says, 'Serenity'

These will all be found Brown Gingham Shoppe soon.
Oh, and don't forget to stop by the shoppe site to check out the Free Patterns available for sewing or painted projects too....and I added a little more Vintage Inspirations.....................................

This is a sample of the vintage haberdashery (hats) for ladies available on this inspiration page from an old advertisment.

And, the BGC Gallery is now open. It shows past creations that were sold. I also use them for custom orders. If someone sees a past creation it can be an inspiration for a different creation all together.

Ever wonder about all those vintage textiles you see in Blogland or at the Anitque Mall? Wonder what the difference betweeen Calico and Mackadoo fabrics? Or, do you know the difference between a Turkey-Work Carpet or Needlework Rug? Well, visit my Vintage Textile Library  for the answer.

was for a lady who brought  me the vintage lirish linen handkerchief. She asked if I could embroider her new Granddaughters name on it so that it could be placed in a large shadowbox with other vintage irish items. It was so fragile I was afraid it would shred, so I created a medallian using a newer peice of Irish linen and hand-tatted rirckrack from another project I did and embroidered the name in matching green of the Shamrocks. It worked beautifully. Be sure to check my ideas on that page. Then come some fun pages. I have 2 libraries.......an Emboidery Library filled with vintage and classicv embroidery and sewing stitches and the other is a favorite, the Antique Textile Library, which contains information about everything you ever wanted to know about textiles. For Mother

I've working on some designs recently that would be perfect for Mother's Day gifts..................................

This is 'Colleen', she's a bonnie little lass, part of my Angelic Inspirations. Colleen is 70ish, but looks great for her age. After a little nip and tuck of her origianl dress, I added the pinafore overlay of a 1950's irish linen and lace hankie.
I love the satin rose and Mother script. The color matched to original blue gingham and satin skirt.

I then gave her a new 'do' and added the hairband....1960's blue gingham with coordinating rickrack. I was soooo happy the color lot matched the 40's. I added a little butterfly applique for whimsy

Her 'wings' are a 1940's hand-tatted doily gathered by more 60's rickrack.

Now 'Rose' is a bit olser that 'Colleen'

She is from the 1930's. She is a composite doll not plastic...to find out more about composite or composition dolls go HERE......she was a model back then paired with a boy on an advertising stand. She is all original.
Her hand-crocheted dress is original and only needed a little refit. She holds a garland created by using 1940's hand-tatted trim with new ribbon roses.

Her under skirt is a 1950-60 linen rose motif linen hankie...with it's original sticker.

'Wings' are a 1940-50 hand-tatted doily in a glorious red that matched the dress. Her 'hairpeice' coordinates with the garland she holds.

Both of these Angelic Inspirations are ooak and would be a perfect Mother's Day rememberance gift.

Mom's always need to carry a lot of stuff. Be it her craft project of the moment, books, shopping items, or the myriad of doodads she has to carry for the family while out..I have a great idea......................................
A roomy canvas tote with reinforced leather bottom and handles. I embellished with vintage quilt inspired fabric with coordinating butterfly. This can even carry cans of veggies!!

Does your Mom love roses? I have created a very 'rosy' gift set just for her..........................................

This is a 1940's rose tablecloth in perfect condition.
I then found a 1940's apron that I redid and added pocket appliques created of matching roses taken from another vintage tablecloth and vintage rickrack.

To complete the set I located 4 1940's glasses in the rose motif.

Wouldn't this make a great tablesetting for Mom as a surprise?
I have other creations at, Brown Gingham Creations that would great gifts for any ocassion.
If you're interested in any creations listed in this post please contact me at

Don't forget to visit  these fun parties on Wednesday

A Vintage Inspired Idea

While out the other day I spied this laying in a pile of other fabric peices...........................................
at first I wasn't sure what it was, but as I pulled it out I happily saw a large, love worn tablecloth. A 1950-60 red and black beauty just waiting to be repurposed. It has several different panels......................................

 Of this delightful couple

 and, several country houses.
and the center has squares of a colonial floral motif. It will all make great appliques!

I couldn't wait I went right home and began embroidering the patterns.
I used various stitches to create different textures.

My Grandma always said the back should look as nice as the front..........
I try.
While embroidering I got to thinking what I'd first like to create with them. A tote was my first thought, so I found this roomy one in my finished sewing..................................

Okay....got everything together, cut out my square applique and added some pretty rick-rack.............

attached it to the tote and ............................voile'.............

a 'Sweet Old-fashioned Girl' tote.
I thought a pretty matching shirt too, but I'm havng a hard time locating a pre-made black shirt in heavy wieght material. I'll keep looking, so, I think a tablerunner will be my next project.
I think will go on my Etsy site...If you would like to pre-book one of these totes just leave a comment.
Don't forget it's Rednesday Wednesday at Susan's It's a Very Cherry World.
Be sure to stop by and see all the red hot posts.

Brown Gingham Goes Back in Time

Have a Happy Memorial  Weekend........................................
And, remember those who gave us the right to enjoy every day in this beautiful land!

Hi Everybody!
By now you all know how much I love all vintage.....everything from textiles to architecture. Recently I was asked to partner with Historic Southwest Ohio at the Heritage Village Museum and place several of my creations in thier gift shop. I was very excited by the invitation....vintage textiles in a vintage setting! If you recall last year I had a booth at their 1st craft show that took place during the Gas engine, Tractor, and Blacksmith Show.

The quaint 19th century village is situated on quite a few acres nestled in a small valley banked by high hills and woods on one side and a large rolling creek and waterfall on the other. LOL... this place is worth just sitting under a caopy in the sun with a gentle breeze, songbirds trilling, the creek babbling by, and the aroma of a roast on the spit and pies baking in the oven.... not selling a thing wouldn't seem too terrible.

From this pic you can see what I mean. There is an Antebellum home named the Haynor House (where the gift shop is located) with it's collection of outbuildings and the Gatch Barn,  a victorian gingerbread beauty called the Elk Lich House with its chicken coop, grape arbor, and double seater outhouse, and a 19th century train station..the Chester Station.  A clapboard workman's cottage called the Benedict Cottage, the federal style Vorhis House where they do all the cooking in the hearth fireplace, and the Kemper House which is a large log home with a seperate stone kitchen. There is also a printer shop, mercantile, church, and the new 'old' schoolhouse which is almost complete.

( Hope to have more pics of other buildings soon)

This is a living museum. The buildings are all decorated in period...right down to the fresh produce in the kitchens to farm yard animals. No detail is missed and the interpreters are in full period dress. It's like a mini Colonial Williamsburg setting for the 19th century instead of 17 and 18th.
That's why I couldn't pass up this opportunity. ...my 1930's-60's designs don't seem too out of place. I will be keeping my eye out for more colonial inspired textile patterns and embroidery transfers to add to my designs to display here.
These are a few pics of my display in the Haynor House Gift Shop.........

These totes, tabletopper, and runners were done exclusively for the gift shop. I was so happy they let me utilize the old timey sewing machine. They placed it in front of the fireplace letting me place a couple of pillows over the top on the mantle.................

I also took a couple of vintage inspired aprons..........................

They don't have a lot of display space yet. They aren't allowed to hang things on nails from the walls, so display space is at a minimum. When in doubt use those 3M stickum hangy things. They work great and do not leave a mark. That is what I did with these 2 aprons. They hang nicely on the wall with no worry.

Luckily this weekend that kick's off my participation is a Civil War Weekend. These are pics from last year..................
