Luck O' The Irish.................................

...........................................................and for all my blogpals! The Canon Powershot is wonderful. I've installed the CD for my my new camera and read thru the book that came with it. Guess what it seems this camera is easy to work......yippee!! Remember, I am by no means a photographer, sooooo I use the AUTO shot...LOL.... a lot...... and my hands are not as steady as they once were..especially while trying to balance on my legs. I just pointed and clicked.......no special light......nothin fancy...............

These are the 'Roses' gave me for Valentines Day. I love the red and brown on the ivory, but the center image of the ranch is so cool. I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't as much flash reflection...my Fugi was terrible for that.

I'm redoing the entry hall...pics will come soon......but this newest horse to my collection was received for my birthday.  I love the American Indian design. Again, this was point and click.

I had to hold the camera above my head and snap, since these red ripe tomatoes are displayed above my Mom's fridge. Again I'm amazed about the lack of glare.

I am not one to promote products, but I would buy another Canon and if you're lookin for a camera check these out.

Eureka...........................................

.................................................I found it!!!!! Okay if you didn't read my past post, My five year old Fugi Digital Camera said sianara last week. I had heard a lot of talk from other bloggers about using Canon Digital Cameras easily for blogging. So, not a photographer I figured I'd look at the prices and see if I could find one. I went online and found them at $109-$99...umph...I was figuring I'd have to wait and you all would be really bored with my posts,
Well, Sunday night we found ourselves at Wal-Mart. We almost forgot to look in the camera department..not really expecting to find anything. HAHA....what to my wandering eyes did appear in a spotlighted glow................................................................

A Canon Powershot 490 and......................wait for it..............you won't believe it...............for  $60.00... 8D.................I was doin Nascar donuts  in the aisle on the little rider/scooter. I got it all programmed....LOL...I would recommend this camera to anyone....if I can program this one, anyone can...it's much easier than the Fugi.  Now I just have to insert my CD-Disk they sent in the box and upload pics I've taken using either the SDHD card or the USB cord.......if that's as easy as the programming, I'll be one happy blogger.
The next sonic boom you hear may be here in Ohio blowin my top if I can't finish this programming.

Boy, am I seeing red....................................

I was going to take some pics of new red things I got for Valentines Day and other pretties to join everyone onver at Sue's(A Very Cherry World) for Rednesday, but my Camera finally gave out 8/..........................

I guess I could show some of this.................................................................................................

 These are some of my hand-painted peices on Flourishes and Broadstrokes page. I will paint on just about anything...bottles, plates, old furniture, walls ;) .....in oil, acylic, water color , ink, pencil, charcoal....whatever is handy.


I recieved a case of these Wild Turkey jugs a while back...they make great accent peices. I basecoated it in October Brown and then spattered it with black. The center was the original bottle logo that placed a Folk-Art landscape. I embellished with plastic buttons and added muslin I tea stained. The one patch has had-embroidered LOVE on it.

I found this old 1940's student chair I painted.  A 1940's embroidery tranfer as the pattern for the center Teddy and bluebird. I couldn't resist partnering it with this vintage inspired pillow I created using vintage hankie, doily, and paper roses.

 This glass plate is acrylic in a Reverse Painting Technique.
I accented the plate with vintage hand-tatted rick-rack.

And, this plate I basecoated in October Brown and spattered with black. I used acrylics to paint the farmhouse garden scene amd I then embellished with buttons.

the plates aren't food safe, but placing a clear glass plate over it created a great serving plate....I call this 'Sandwiche Glass'



I could show some of my custom designs I've created for clients..................................................................

A lady brought in this vintage linen shamrock scalloped hankie and asked if I could embroider a new baby's name on it. Being vintage it is a little thin, so I took a piece of vintage linen I had, embroidered the distinctively Irish name on it and applied it to a fiber board backing. I then found some vintage edging in my stash left from another project. The client took the finished items and had them framed in a shadow box to place in the new baby's room.

This mixed media creation is a hotplate. I took a plain glass plate and basecoated it brown. I took a vintage doily and dyed it a lighter brown.The center nedallion was created by taking piece of fiber board and covering it with natural cotton batting, then I added an applique I made from  embroidering  a black-eyed susan mothif hankie....carefully cut it out and applied. I makes a wonderful shower gift.

This nightlight was fun to create for the client. I used a 1960's spun plastic doll and wired her for a low watt light kit. I used a vintage doily and a hankie I hand-embroidered to make her dress, collar, hat and parasol accents. New buttons accent the bodice.

We all enjoy some vintage ephemera. I don't do much in paper crafts, but they make wonderful embroidery patterns tho.

Well this is my impromptu post. As I mentioned before...with everything else goin on......hopefully I'll get a new camera by this weekend.

Rainy Days and Mondays

It's only 10a, but this is how my days is going. It started storming at 3a and was up til about 6a. Wind...hail....lightening.....

thunder..the whole show....it was a gullywasher, but thankfully no tornado. It was in the upper 60's and is now in the upper 50's, but it's to go down to the 40's by 5...yikes...they say if you don't like Cincinnati's weather just wait a minute..it'll change.

Today, I'd also like to thank all who have sent E-mails and messages inquiring about Dad's progress.

He is getting a little better each day.

Now the real bright spot today is that it kicks off the week long

If you didn't know the birthstone is amethyst and the flower of the month is violets.....both shades of purple.

Now for this post I thought I'd show off some of my vintage inspired creations.............................

I created this plate by taking a plain glass dinnerplate and basecoating it white. I then hand-painted the bouquet of violets. After it all dried I added the vintage hand-tatted rick-rack to frame the center.

Miss February(a 1952 6" platic doll) sports a dress (1940's hankie) in a violet print I hand-embroidered and added vintage habadashery violets and glass bead violet buds. Her cloak is a vintage doily adorned by glass bead violet buds.

This puple passion wedding pillow was a great find. I had the vintage doily and latex rose, but one day I came across the vintage wedding hankie in a package of like new undone stamped vogart. I stitched up the double ring pattern and flowers and added silver studs.

My Favorite Lavender Lady is Frenchy. Her satin slip is a wonderfully faded blue-purple. The satin rose fabric with the pale lavender fringe is original to the doll. I added a 1930's hankie for the skirt and hand-embroidered some of the flowers to matxch the blue-purple colors of the slip.

                          I just love her lavender iridescent wings and jaunty felt and feather cap.

This pretty in purple lass is a kitchen angel. Her skirt and apron are original, but I added the vintage rick-rack and embroidered flowers on the apron. She sports 19y60 eyelet wings. She stands atop a wodden cutting board that is accented by a 1960's recipe tin box with a few original recipes and a 1940's cookbook filled with tasty recipes and vintage doll photos! With this kitchen witch around no recipe will turn our badly :)

I came by the other day......

.......and stopped a while. I wish I could've stayed longer and let you know I was there, but I had to get back  to Mom and Dad. Dad just needs to get his appetite and strength back and Mom just needs to rest.....
not too sure how much help I really am on either front..sigh.

Apronation

It has been a horrible week

I haven't been around all week cause I've been in the hospital with Dad again. He's doing ok, but now
I am stuck in the house and can't get out!! Again!!!

Since this storm goes from Arizona to Maine, I guess you're stuck too.

These poor little guys were iced right out of their nest............................................

Mom says that, usually, once there is a period of big snow storms followed by a good ice storm,  

Spring follows . Hopefully, Punxatawney Phil will agree with Moms observation,

and we'll have an early Spring.

I have my Skotch Kooler collection in my kitchen. I love to use them as serving pieces filled with ice and placing a Pyrex bowl inside. Keeps everything cold for a long while....perfect for Super Bowl parties :) The grill can be used as a warmer too.

And, what better time to have this............................................................................................................

It's actually my Mom's, she saw it first at the antique mall......I would have had it tho;) It has some great recipes using soup as an ingredient....no not just Cream of Mushroom in green beans...for pete sakes.

Well, I guess this is the end of my post for today. It seems I've lost my DISH. This must be some storm...we never lose our DISH..despite some claims by the "other guys".....called the 800# and it says due to the storm some things are out....okay now is the time to say....'if digital satelite TV goes down and satellite radio goes down how isn't that an argument that we should keep go old AM/FM and UHF/VHF on the airways?'....just saying.
