So glad you came through the woods of Bloglandia today for a little visit. The kitchen Garden is starting to bloom out. The herb garden smells wonderful with all the Mint. Thought I lost my Thyme, but it is sprouting/spreading like wildfire. My Lamb's Ear with Rye and Red Clover next to the water pump is blooming profusely and the Clematis, Rubeckia, Summer Phlox, Shasta Daisy, and Black-eyed Susan's/Echinacea is up and waiting for their turn to show off. If you notice I don't have many annuals, well, I love the pops of color, but the older I get and more prone to allergy attacks of mold and fungus diggin in the dirt isn't as fun as it used to be....(I do put some small pots around)...I miss it, but I always preferred natural gardening. Some call it Roadsidia Gardens....Prairie Gardens...Butterfly Gardens.....Gardens to Attract Birds.....and several other names. So, what I do is plant perennials and a lot of wildflowers....okay weeds you see growing along side the road, hence, the name Roadsidia. I'll let you see some pics closer up on another visit. Let's go in and I'll show ya around. Now, its not a big farm kitchen, nor a magazine spread gourmet designer kitchen, but I love it and it's filled with things that have meaning..and yes....everything is used. The vintage stuff is not just for show.
This is the hall...you may have taken a look before...oooo..let's not go into the laundry room today...hehe.
Click pics for closer look.
More molds and a ceramic strawberry themed pie plate as wall decor and a NEHI metal sign..just cause that was the first soft drink I remember in childhood (pre- Mt Dew in 64')
Love plaster fruit. My Grandma and Mom both had/has em on the walls. Again, they make great trivets.
Jim got me this pine cabinet and I use as a spice rack for the most part. Of course there is a 'vintage' repro can of baking powder from Watkins and Calumet. I love pitchers, so above I display a 30's-40's farm motif one and another smaller floral patterned. nestled between the two is a full box of paper straws..I remember my Grandma always having those on hand.
And, at the end of this hall are a framed Strawberry packing label, a metal ad sign, strawberry themed cross-stitch meal prayer, and a 1940's wooden shopping memo board. |
Look up.
Those are a few of my hand-wrought aluminum serving pieces on the wall between the kitchen and dining room and then below that my plate rack....................... |
that holds my strawberry china, molds, an apple scented wall basket, and more plaster fruit |
These two pics show the kitchen wall.
AS you can see the border is a vine of strawberries. The color scheme is red, black, and white |
The decor over the sink that's between to two cabinets. |
The matching cabinet with more vintage treasures and cookbooks, and of course you see vintage aluminum all around |
This is over the stove |
Here's a close-up of the strawberry accent lamp over the sink. |
and this is our picnic basket....Scotch Plaid....sometime I'll have to show the whole collection I have. The Campbell's Soup set isn/t old, but it shows the Soup Kids from the 30's to now. |
As you can see from past posts I collect vintage cookbooks and this shelf over my baking center is only half pic'd Below is the rest of the area. |
The mixer was a Christmas from my CarGuy. He saw that it was a Sunbeam vintage reproduction, so it was the perfect present. |
I hope you enjoyed your peek at my kitchen. I enjoy cooking there so much and everything around has a special meaning or memory. LOL...there is even more space to fill in for other vintage finds and sometime soon I hope to show a little decor updo.....no change in color or theme..just small tweeks.
Now, you grab the drinks and we'll head out and see what everyone else is doin...there are some great Blog Parties thru HERE the whole week
