Happy Halloween!

Halloween is my second favorite holiday.

I have found some don't celebrate Halloween cause they think it promotes...witchcraft and the demonic...but All Hallows Eve (Halloween)..celebrates All Soul's Day..Nov 1st.  The day we pray for soul's of the departed and  remember our deceased family and friends   It was believed on Halloween that the souls of the departed roamed the earth to visit loved one. The Devil didn't like it so he sent his minions to also roam the earth on that night and steal living souls. To be safe while going out on the evening folks would don costumes to confuse the minions and they returned empty handed.
Today I wonder if the minions are more terrified of millions of screaming, costumed kids..on sugar highs...running amok in search of more candy....LOL

I thought I'd share my menu  for this Halloween........................

Rednesday Wednesday #8

Welcome to
Rednesday Wednesday
It's hard to believe this is the 8th week for  Rednesday.
This is a weekly blog party celebrating everything red. Sunset reds to garnet reds....
tomato reds to strawberry reds...and every shade in between.
Posts can showcase vintage finds. collections, decor, fashion, designs or items you have for sale, seasonal items, recipes, etc. The connecting thread will be the color red.

With this also being Autumn and Halloween the Cousins of RED are also included such as russets, red-oranges,  and maroon.

For this party I thought I'd Start with some awfully good appetizers ..........................................................................

Goblin Crisps
Provolone and Roasted Red Pepper Crisps

Serves 8| Hands-On Time: | Total Time:

  1. Heat broiler. Arrange the pita halves cut-side up on a broilerproof baking sheet. Brush with 2 tablespoons of the oil and sprinkle with the paprika, oregano, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Broil until crisp, 2 to 3 minutes; set aside.
  2. Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet. Add the peppers, garlic, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cook until the peppers are hot and fragrant, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the lemon juice.
  3. Top the pita halves with the pepper mixture and sprinkled with the provolone. Broil until the provolone melts, 2 to 3 minutes. Cut into pieces before serving.

Toasted Trollnails
Hilda's Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

  • Seeds from 1 large pumpkin, rinsed and dried
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Scatter pumpkin seeds onto a sheet pan in a single layer and drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and toss to coat. Bake for about 7 minutes, until light brown and crispy
Or how about some............

Brain Dip
Halloween Brain Dip Recipe
Original recipe makes 3 cups Change Servings
  1. Slice the avocados in half. Remove the seeds and set aside. Scoop the avocado out of the skin into a bowl. Mash with a fork or whisk and stir in the salsa. Set aside. Slice off one side of each pit to make it flat and expose the cores of the pits. They will look like eyes.
  2. Remove all of the leaves from the cauliflower and remove the stem, leaving a nice hollow area with the outer part of the head intact. Use toothpicks to hold it together if it starts to fall apart.
  3. Place the cauliflower into a small bowl, so that the hollow is facing upwards and most of the cauliflower is up out of the bowl. The bowl is just for stability. Fill with the avocado dip and arrange the pits as eyes. Decorate the white ''brain'' by weaving thin strands of red and blue fruit leather between the florets to make veins and arteries. I wrap the bowl with cheesecloth and decorate with red food coloring to make it even more horrific!

I thought a little Voodoo Chicken

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs Recipe

Original recipe makes 6 servings

  1. In a medium bowl, stir together the olive oil, ranch dressing, Worcestershire sauce, rosemary, salt, lemon juice, white vinegar, pepper, and sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes. Place chicken in the bowl, and stir to coat with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the grill for medium-high heat. Thread chicken onto skewers and discard marinade.
  3. Lightly oil the grill grate. Grill skewers for 8 to 12 minutes, or until the chicken is no longer pink in the center, and the juices run clear.

And these terribly good Monster Mash Potatoes

  • Meanwhile, in a small skillet, cook bacon until partially cooked,
  • about 3 minutes; drain on paper towels.
  • Drain beans; place about 12 beans on each bacon strip. Position one
  • end of beans so they are nearly even; cut about 1/4 in. from that
  • end so stalks will stand when served. Wrap bacon strip around beans;

  • Lay stalks flat on an ungreased baking sheet. Sprinkle with onion
  • powder. Bake, uncovered, at 400° for 10-15 minutes or until

Now that we all have our plates, let's get this party goin!
My Red post today is of some of my Fav finds......................
I found this sampler

and this great bag filled with Christmas novelties.

This wonderful hat will make a great base for and Angelic Inspiration.

These rose hankies will create a lovely dress.

I love this plastic tabletop lighted jack'o'lantern

and this thrifted  potholder matches my vinyl tablecloth!

These 4 plates are just too haunting not to use for Halloween.

Autumn Ispiration

I love to create.

And, Autumn Is my Muse............

As a Floral Designer Autumn inspires tablescapes, like this one above. A base of bu;ap covered the table, then a woven plaid tablecloth topped it. A huge grapevine cornucopia filled with fruit, pumpkins  melons, and fresh autumn hued flowers and foliages are the focal point spilling onto the floor. The top is accented by candlesticks, pumpkin scented pillar candles, mochaware plates, and a freshly baked pumpkin cake.
It was awarded a Gold Medal of  Excellence from the Cincinnati Horticultural Society.

This basket is a fun fall theme of asters, mums, and autumn leaves with a cute scarecrow.

This Pave' design is a favorite. It reminds me of a quilt.....this I quilt I have patience to do..hehe.
This was created with an assorted collection of flowers and foliages. Sometimes I add stones...beads....threads.....yarns....even rick-rack...depending on the theme.

It also inspires my acrylic artworks..........................................................

This framed landscape looks like a watercolor, but it is acrylic

and this mixed media bottle was spray painted brown with a mottled black overcoat. The 'label' is a  sponged background  accented by bead leaves. I hand-painted the mum, again with acrylic paint, and added seed beads in the center.

Of course Autumn inspires my embroidery.............................................................

This 1960's dishtowel was revived with Fall leaves fringe and bittersweet vines

and this vintage hankie popped with hand-embroidery and seed beads

Autumnal hues even inspire my decor throughout the year.

My living room sofa area  and oil painting reflects the warm colors found in my whole house.
Browns, burgandys, rose, golds, peaches, blues, greens, rusts....

Even Autumn's holidays inspire me. I love to cook during the Halloween season. My menus just 'reek' with inspiration. This week may include: Bat Wings...............Voodoo Chicken.........Monster Mash Potatoes........Poison Apples......Fungus Salad.......can you tell I've thought about this....I have many more.

Well, today I think I need some more inspiration and I enjoy going to Create With Joy for Inspire Me Monday so why don;t we go together...bring Halloween week it gets a little scary in Bloglandia.

Chilly Fall Days and Shoppers Specials

Chilly Fall days are ;perfect for soups  and when you think of soup.....well..........................

you usually think of the pantry staple.....Campbell's.. This ad is from a Family Circle circa 1950's.
It makes a wonderful wall decor for the kitchen or decoupaged to a tray.
Vintage magazines contain so many snippets of the past .

This is a Campbell's soup recipe page is from a Women's Day in the 40's. Be sure to print this out for some yummy tummy warmers.

I found this decorating article in a 1960's Family Circle..sorry I couldn't resist putting it in.......
This is not IKEA this is a Scandinavian modern interior. They give you addresses where you van order items from. Oh this is too funny. But I digress back to our Shopping day.

Some ads I find are not for long forgotten brands..........
This Pyrex ad was found in one of my Women's Day 1940's. Now don't you wish you had a time machine to grad a set at that price!!

Check out this Blue Bonnet ad , it is still in the Dairy Isle and only for .87 cents. I know for sure cause I picked some up this weekend ;)

And, rounding out this weeks shopper specials is Morton Salt! This ad is from the 60's also.
All  these ads are copy and print ready for you to use.

Now, since it is chilly and it is  Rednesday Wednesday

why not settle in a comfy oversized chair with a cup of soup and take a stroll thru  other Blog-hoppers  Rednesday posts.

You may notice I haven't included any horribly delectable Halloween recipes this Rednesday.
Since next week is Halloween Week I thought I'd rest up the old cauldron cause she'll be brewing up some trouble all week!

Special delivery to BG Cabin

Boy were we surprised when the Stork made a delivery BG Cabin...............................................

as a matter of fact, we didn't even know we were expecting! No, we are certain we were not expecting.
Now we realize most Cabins need a Dog and/or a couple of cats. We have the dog thing covered, but 3 years ago he did this to us...leaving 9 kittens in our yard.. The only problem was 3 were hairless and their eyes weren't open yet...only hours old.....while 3 were a week old...and 3 others 2 weeks

I was afraid Shadow was making sure if they were ripe yet, but to my astonishment..LOL... he constantly
checked up on them..I think telling them things....he'd sit for long periods like this just looking.
They, the 6, are now his Kittencaboodle...the 3 only hours old didn't make it...they didn't have a chance.

Today he left just one.

I took these shots while he slept so the flash wouldn't bother his eyes. He seems to a week old...maybe a few more days that that...just starting a wobbling walk.  Shadow has been eyeing him and The Kittencaboodle are not thrilled ...we've explained he has been left by mistake and we have to find him his 'Forever' home. He can't stay.

So, for now he is sitting on my lap as I post waiting for his next feeding....this is gonna be a loooong night.
Okay, this is gonna be hard in the morning
Well, I guess I'm gonna be going over to Etsy Cottage Style Blogspot for the
Welcome to the Cottage Craft Room and to
Create with Joy for Inspire Me Monday

I have blamed this little lost kitten on the Stork, but as I have said this has happened's heart wrenching to think people would just leave it.......

Tearful update.........................
Just got back from the Vet.....Kitten didn't Make it.  His lungs weren't right. He had an infection when we found him, but thought it was just conjunctivitis was worse than that...sigh

It's Pink Saturday!

Every Wednesday is Rednesday here at Brown Gingham
                                        Click button to see recap
and today is ...........................
How Sweet the Soundat How Sweet the Sound.

So, I thought I'd show a few pieces  of English Enamelware I found

A Pretty English Cottage and Garden  These plates seem to tell a story of this Cottage.

This pastoral scene is so serene....lambs...faithful guard dog....the girls found roses to pick in the old stone wall  and even a dove allows them to hold it. The edge around this plate has accents of the roses interspersed  around the rim.

The rims of plates are all different

These two look like eyelet material with a floral flourish

This plate has a floral ivy pattern with  these floral garlands interspersed.

I hadn't seen plates like these before. They weren't dented or rusted so for $1.50 each at the antique mall I had to have them. Believe me I had to double check the sticker wasn't 11.50 or 15.00..LOL...
I do not get the luck of finding thrifty things like this. To my thrill they were $1.50!!
I can't wait to do a little tablescape with the trio.
Well, I'm going to go and see all the other posts that'll be pretty in pink. We can go together thru HERE .
